A Cove of Meditative Writing: TtLoT Book Review

“Shannon Greenstein's THROUGH THE LENS OF TIME should be required reading for all students of history—from the curious 7th grader to the wizened professor. Imbuing major historical moments, mishaps, and tragedies with gripping narratives, Greenstein successfully augments the factual into mini-epics of humanity and horror, then deftly shows how the past continues, cascading into our lives today and beyond.”

—Todd Dillard, author of Ways We Vanish

“THROUGH THE LENS OF TIME still rings out a siren for the horrors that are unnatural, that leave you in survival mode, but just between the living and the dying. (…) Greenstein is easily one of the best Thirty West authors I have read so far.”

—Kinsey Krachinski, publisher and author of the Zuri the Zebra series.

“THE WENDIGO OF WALL STREET is a vivid, unpredictable escapade, a slippery slope into surrealism, and a hilarious satire of mythological proportions. Kaleidoscopic, boisterous, and brimming with verve, Greenstein has penned a caper, a page-turner without sacrificing the signature beauty of her sentences."

—Jonathan Koven, author of Below Torrential Hill, and Spark Bird

“THE WENDIGO OF WALL STREET is a sexy, pulsating, and hilarious save-the-world rom-com you won't be able to put down and, like the world itself, you won't want to end.”

—Jeff Bogle, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Stanchion Magazine and Books

“These Are a Few of My Least Favorite Things is a book that begins--literally--with a spark that Shannon Frost Greenstein breathes into a fire that's half hearth, half inferno, and always illuminating. Unflinching and authentic, whether interrogating a history of personal trauma or the poisons of capitalism, Greenstein's poems show us how being a witness to suffering is to become an accessory to suffering, that the pain we internalize becomes what we know foremost about ourselves. "I inhabit—flawlessly and with surprise—the character of my own body" Greenstein writes, and it's true: how flawlessly we inhabit our flaws. But then—as Greenstein shows over and over—how wonderful to rise from the wreckage of ourselves and know goodness, beauty, and righteousness. "Today, / I lived and / tomorrow / I will live again.”

—Todd Dillard, author of Ways We Vanish

“Shannon Frost Greenstein sings the body pharmacologic. These Are a Few of My Least Favorite Things is a poetic ode to the soul at struggle with maladies, mental illness and the sometimes malevolence of mankind. It is a masterful medicinal release in verse of the toxins that taint mortality.”

—Kristin Garth, author of The Stakes

“With dark imagination and punchy prose, Shannon Frost Greenstein delivers us from safe expectation. These are bold, harrowing tales, bristling with religious and philosophical themes. Greenstein conjures a memorable cast of sinners—tortured and damned—in what amounts to a provocative and heartbreaking debut, PRAY FOR US SINNERS.”

—Scott Neuffer, editor of trampset
